Exposure to noise is the most common cause of hearing loss. In the U.S., 30 million workers are exposed to hazardous levels of noise and almost half of people aged 12 to 35 are exposed to unsafe noise levels from personal listening devices. The artists that create our music are at risk as well. Musicians are 400% more likely to have hearing loss than the general population. Fortunately, all of this hearing loss can be prevented. East Bay Audiologists takes the same care in recommending and fitting personal hearing protection as they do with hearing aids.
Custom earmolds
Custom earmolds are made from an impression of the ear canal and the bowl of your outer ear. Because they conform to the shape of the ear, they fit perfectly for more complete and comfortable protection. They may be made from silicon, acrylic, or vinyl. There are electronic models, like those for hunters, which can amplify background noise while stopping loud noise. There are also nonelectronic models. Some models are fitted with an attenuator that allows some lower-level noise, like conversation, to be heard while stopping the damaging levels of noise.

Custom earplugs
Custom earplugs are made from a mold of your ear canal. They are worn in the canal and can be fitted with cords or handles for easy removal. Like custom earmolds, custom earplugs are more comfortable than off the shelf solutions.
Custom earplugs are for more than noise exposure. Swimmers, surfers, shift workers and frequent travelers enjoy their ability to block noise, wind and water.
Musicians earplugs and monitors
Musicians have unique hearing protection needs. Every practice and performance exposes them to damaging levels of sound. However, most traditional hearing protection devices muffle and distort sound interfering with their ability to hear their music.
Musicians’ earplugs solve this problem. These custom earplugs reduce the intensity levels without distorting sound. In addition to musicians, these earplugs protect the hearing of those who work in live performance venues, bars, night clubs and frequent concert-goers. In-ear monitors allow musicians to hear the music without dangerous amplification or crowd noise.
